Are
you Demotivating Your Employees?
I am writing about this
topic because many times a talented employee is demotivated in company due to
many reasons. It’s my own experience. After working long time in an
organization it is felt that, you are being demotivated. Demotivation comes
from many ways. Actually these days I’m also suffering from it, so thought to
explain it deeply. Why? Employees get demotivated. When I started working in
this Education organization as a Manager it was much excitement in me regarding
my work, my office, all tasks given by my Managing Director. He used say
“Always Keep Excitement in life”. When you stopped being excited and keep
starting new works, you will loss all current power. And if you are continue
working on new projects your power increases 100 times more. If anyone asks to
me, how was I inspired with him? Actually I analyzed his working style. He is a
Managing Director but works most in the company. Never take rest eve. Once I
thought, Being MD of the company he is not taking rest then why should I?. From
the day I started working day and night. You can’t believe. I wake up at 5
O’clock be ready after 6 AM, and reach my office at 7 AM. Work continuously,
don’t care about the lunch, Its 2 O’clock, 3O’clock. By Force my MD and one Mam
never seen like her say to take lunch. I had had no lunch with me. Because I
get up at 6 and come at 7. They offer me their lunch. When again I start
working then it is 7 o’clock of evening. Completed 12 hours. Eyes are red now.
Headache is smiling on me. Summer vacation is saying to drink cool water, AC
outside was calling to sit under it. My obsession was on 7th sky. I
had read anywhere that if you have obsession in your life then your lazy life
becomes exciting.
But working from
morning till night can’t bring obsession in your life. How can obsession come
in your life? Actually before few days I was wondering here there but not
working seriously anywhere. Here I had some incident in my life that’s why I
have started working seriously. It became my habit. My MD used to motivate me
doing new things started many projects. I was living his life. Fulfilling his
dream. Think from a side then I find that I was in benefit here, but from one
side I see then find that I was destroying my life’s precious moment to fulfill
other’s dream. I was losing my existence. If I had worked for me adding my
ambition with strong obsession, how creative my world would be. Really it
doesn’t matter that how I spent my life and for whom. I learnt much from this
experience. Even I was learning daily. But misfortunately DEMOTIVATION came in
this story.
Demotivation started
from here, our employees increased here. I told many time to make good rule regulation
and a management. He Denied. He started taking decision alone. He started
opening his personal life matter in office. “Abuse”, “Slap” all became common
for him and his beloved. I had worked hard to increase no. of employees in low
salary. Watching condition of organization, each of them started leaving
office. They were so laborious, working here in low salary. Because I thought
them daily related to their profile in Digital marketing. They were availing
benefits. Now, when they were experienced 6 months expected for salary
increment. But my MD Sir told to fire them; we can’t give them more salary. I
told them to search job, they got better job. They are happy but we are not.
Because they were experienced, they were motivated here in our company environment,
having all knowledge of organization. They were lack of motivation only. They
left because they were demotivated.
Losing the command on your organization
The most effective MD
or Managers are the ones who have a finger on the pulse of the office at all
times. Gossip often flies on facts that are poorly understood. Whether fact or
fiction, truth or speculation, they can serve as big sources of distraction for
employees. A good leader heads these issues out of the office. They don’t bring
their personal life in the office. Make sure you cultivate honest relationships
with a few key employees at different levels. If you start ignoring key people
of the company, he will also start hating you. So it’s better that rely on them
to let you know – without attribution to individual employees, of course – what
issues are gathering steam. Address them honestly, publicly and quickly. And
make sure you have a true open-door policy where you’ll willingly answer
questions in a one-on-one setting.
Failing to express thankfulness:
Being an employee, I
think and want to be recognized for my hard work. It’s one of the most fundamental
tenets of leadership. While I found here at last ignoring employee progress was
a huge mistake. It costs nothing but the time it takes to acknowledge that
person. When an employee feels unappreciated, he or she loses the desire to
push boundaries and working hard for the company. If formality isn't your
thing, a genuine compliment every now and then goes a long way toward boosting
employee motivation. He failed doing it.
Reading heart and mind of employee:
The most effective Directors
or Manager of the company should be typically the ones who bring a personal
touch to their approach with employees. Take the time to get to know your managers
and their team. People tend to work much harder when they see you care and
understand their impact on the team. Perhaps more importantly, remember that
people are not identical - individual employees have individual motivations.
When you invest the time to learn more about the people who work with and for
you, it’s easier to identify what makes them tick and how you can help them
realize their potential.
A Managing Director or
manager of organization should manage these three points written above. I know
that am not much experienced to say it but, so far as my experience and feeling
concerned. We must care about it. Now analyzing these all thing, I must say, I
am not demotivated my position on that organization was being demotivated only.
Whenever I start working again for any organization. My energy will be more
that flowing here. I will start hammering on my task like stones. Not now but
sure within a short while I will hunt my ambition.
